DANCE GROUP MASS G’NOZYDE REPRESENTS GRENADA IN REGIONAL HIP HOP COMPETITION

Members of the dance group, Mass G’Nozyde, have returned to Grenada after participating in the fifth annual "CARIB'-HOP" Dance Competition in Martinique.

It is the first time in history that Grenada has been represented in an international Hip Hop dance competition. The event took place from the 11th to the 14th of January at the Atrium Cultural Center in Martinique, and was attended by dance troupes from France, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guyana.

Groups took part in a variety of dance workshops ranging from “Free Style” to “House.” The competition culminated in a three-on-three dance battle, which pitted various countries against one another.

Grenada battled against Dominica, and while neither group qualified for the final rounds, the opportunity was not lost to network with other dance groups throughout the Caribbean.

Leader of the Mass G’Nozyde group, Mr. Ronny Young, said, “It was a truly great experience. I am now seeing the real meaning of break dancing. I felt as if I had been in the dark and now I have seen the light.”

The manager of the group, Mr. Nima Anvar, said that he was very pleased with the results. "This was a first for our group and a first for Grenada. We wanted to make a mark outside of Grenada and represent our country well. The guys have done a great job, and the experience should give them the motivation to work that much harder to reach even larger audiences.”

He thanked the various sponsors who had generously assisted with making the trip possible, namely the Grenada National Lottery, Waggy-T Sound Rentals, On-the Spot-Hardware and VDO Moments. “It is because of these businesses and their sponsorship that our youth have been able to experience something greater than themselves. Their support has helped to expand their world. For that we are forever grateful,” said Anvar.

Gaining acceptance across the Caribbean and networking throughout the region was definitely the goal for the dance group. Mr. Anvar said, "It just proves that with hard work and proper training, our guys can do just as well as anyone else in the world."
