
After weeks of anticipation Grenadian Journalists young and old were awarded for their hard work in 2011 on Sunday 22nd January 2012.
Best Video Production, Best Online Feature, Best Political, Business, Parliament and Tourism stories and Best Sports Story were just a few of the categories judged.
17 awards were distributed at the Grenada Trade Center on Sunday evening as the Media Workers’ Association of Grenada held its annual awards ceremony.
14 awards were for entries from Journalists, 2 from MWAG for long service and lifetime achievement to Eugene Mason and Lewellyn Smith respectively and 1 from sponsor DIGICEL called the “Anthony Jericho Greenidge Award”.
At the end of it all Mikey Hutchinson of WEE FM stole the first ever “Anthony Jericho Greenidge” award, President of MWAG Rawle Titus was awarded for best online feature, Community Channel 6 received 4 awards, Maitland Television 2, Grenada Broadcasting Network received 3 and Brainstorm Productions received 3.
Four Journalists were also awarded for outstanding performance at a summer program at CARIMAC and they were presented with certificates.
Present at the ceremony was Junior Minister of Information Senator Glen Noel, Governor General His Excellency Sir Carlyle Glean, PRO in the Grenada Board of Tourism Edwin Frank, DIGICEL’s Country Manager Patricia Maher and other specially invited guests.
RENOWNED CARIBBEAN JOURNALIST TONY FRASER was the feature speaker at the awards ceremony.
His address focused on Journalism Ethics and whose responsibility it is to uphold those ethics.
He posed the question “Are relationships developed between Politicians and Journalists conflicting what is considered proper Journalism ethics?”
Blaming Media Owners and Managers for allowing financial greed to overpower what is right; Fraser further charged the Executive of MWAG and the aspiring Journalists to uphold ethics and strive for greatness.
